FDA warns consumers against use of devices for assessing head injury

FDA recently issued a warning to the public not to use tools such as smartphone- or tablet-based apps that claim to help assess, diagnose or manage head injury. NORA urges consumers to follow the FDA’s warning not to use unapproved or uncleared medical devices to help assess or diagnose a concussion on their own and we strongly urge consumers who may notice any changes in their vision following a concussion or some other head trauma not to ignore them and immediately contact their eye care professional to determine the cause of the vision change. The Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association, International (NORA) today announced it is offering up to 10 students and residents with an interest in neuro-rehabilitation an opportunity to apply for a student grant to attend the organization’s Clinical Skills Pre-Conference (September 19-20) and 28th annual General Conference (September21-22) at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Scottsdale Resorts, Scottsdale, Arizona.

Major League Soccer All-Star Alecko Eskandarian To Speak At 28th Annual Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association Conference

Two-time Major League Soccer (MLS) All-Star Alecko Eskandarian will be the key-note speaker at the NORA 28th annual General Conference. Eskandarian, who now serves as Senior Manager, Player Relations and Competition for MLS, played in 125 games over the course of a seven-year MLS career in which he experienced four concussions. Since retiring in 2010, he has been sharing his story about his concussions and his struggles with treatment and rehabilitation, and he continues to be an advocate for greater concussion awareness education.

College of Optometrists in Vision Development & Neuro Optometric Rehabilitation Association Issue Joint Recommendation for Optometric Evaluation Following Brain Injury

MANALAPAN, NJ -- (February 19, 2019) -- -- The College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) and the Neuro Optometric Rehabilitation Association™ (NORA), today, issued a joint call-to-action to all healthcare professionals to consider the need for medical and/or functional optometric rehabilitation services for patients who have suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), such as a concussion, or due to a medical condition such as stroke, tumor, aneurism, meningitis and cerebral palsy, or other neurological insults.
